Nuno Palmeiro Ribeiro
Captain Nuno Ribeiro was born in Lisbon in 1969 and joined the Portuguese Navy in 1987. Having graduated from Naval Academy in 1992, he went on to serve in wide range positions.
From 1991 to 1993 he served on frigate NRP “Álvares Cabral” and in August 1993 he was assigned as Commanding Officer of small patrol boat NRP “Albatroz” until August 1995.
In the following 6 years he was an information systems analyst, until has been appointed as Executive Officer of Portuguese Navy Research Ship NRP “D. Carlos I” during 2001-2004 and afterwards he served in the Naval Academy until 2006.
Captain Ribeiro was then appointed to the Strategic Plans Directorate in Armed Forces General Staff till 2008 and the next 4 years he was assigned to Navy Staff. During that period he served in Intelligence, Operations and Plans and Policy Directorates.
From September 2012 until September 2015, he was assigned to European Union Military Staff in Brussels, Belgium.
From October 2015 until August 2017, he was the European Union Policy Adviser to Defence Policy Director in the Portuguese Defence Ministry.
Captain Ribeiro was assigned as Commanding Officer of NRP “D. Carlos I” from September 2017 to September 2019.
For the next two years he was assigned as Chief of Cabinet of Plans and Coordination Vice-Admiral in Armed Forces General Staff. During this period, he was chief of cabinet of the Task
Force Coordinator against COVID19 in Portugal (from 4th February until 28th September 2021).
From December 2021 until October 2023, he was the Foreign Affair Adviser of Portuguese Chief of Navy Staff.
He is the Portuguese Navy’s Operational and Experimentation Centre Director since the end of October 2024.
Captain Ribeiro specialized in Informatics in 1996. He concluded the MSc in Statistics and Information Management in the New University of Lisbon in 2001, the Junior Naval Staff Course in 2004, Joint Staff Course in 2005, National External Policy Course in 2006 (Foreign Affairs Ministry) and Flag Staff Course in 2024.
Captain (N) Nuno Palmeiro Ribeiro was promoted to the actual rank on 12th November 2019.
