Nick is a Surface Warfare Officer who has developed extensive operational experience in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Red Sea and Arabian Gulf since joining the Royal Navy in 2007. After completing his initial training in destroyers his early career was focused on Mine Counter Measure Operations in MCM1 Squadron where he served as Gunnery Officer, Operations Officer and Executive Officer in a variety of Single Role Minehunters. Along with UK tasking, this period incorporating deployments to the Middle East for OP TELIC and later OP KIPION along with Standing NATO Mine Countermeasure Group 2 deployments to the Mediterranean and Black Sea. On completion of Principle Warfare Officer course he returned to destroyers serving as PWO(A) and later Operations Officer of HMS DARING. Deploying back to the Middle East on OP KIPION he conducted coalition escort operations in response to the attack on MV SWIFT in the Bab al-Mandeb strait along with follow on USN CSG and counter narcotics operations. In 2017 Nick became the embedded Royal Navy representative in DE&S for the delivery of Combat Management and Electronic Warfare systems in surface ships. Working within Maritime Combat Systems he managed a wide range of future and current capability programmes including the Maritime Electronic Warfare Programme, Shared Infrastructure and Project ORCA. In 2020 he conducted an exchange appointment with the USN as Lead Multi Threat Warfare and Undersea Warfare Instructor at the Surface Warfare Schools Command in Newport Rhode Island. Working within the N73 Maritime Warfare Directorate he provided tactical and operational training to USN Tactical Action Officers (TAO). During this appointment he led the modernisation of USN TAO qualification and assurance with the implementation of OP IRON HYDRA as the TAO capstone assessment. Selected for Command in 2023 Nick joined the Mine Threat Exploitation Group as Commanding Officer of X-RAY Squadron Unit 1 the expeditionary Mine Warfare unit and Unit 3 the UUV support to the Diving & Threat Exploitation Group. X-RAY Squadron continue to deliver USV and UUV MCM effect on operations whilst refining the adoption of autonomous systems within the Royal Navy. Nick lives in the South West with this wife and two children and enjoys skiing badly, sailing and walking their aging cocker spaniel.
