Karl Sörenson (Ph.D.) is a researcher at the Department of Naval Operations, FHS, and senior analyst at the Swedish Defence Research Agency, FOI. Sörenson’s dissertation at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, "Deterrence Games for the 21st Century: Representation, Theory and Evidence", treated deterrence from a game theoretic perspective. Sörenson’s other research has focused on naval operations and African security.

Sörenson also holds a MA. Philosophy from Sorbonne University, a M.Sc. in Computer and Systems Sciences from Stockholm University. During his time in France Sörenson worked for the Swedish Institute (SI) with culture and French-Swedish relations.
