Jamie Nicholls
Jamie joined the Royal Navy in 2009, as a Engineering Technician, Marine Engineer. Promoting through the ranks to Petty Officer, he served in a number of Ships - ranging from HMS Ark Royal to the smaller Mine Counter Measure Vessels operating in the Middle East. Roles as a rating included maintaining Diesel Generators, Engines, Domestic Services, Fire Fighting Systems and HVAC.
After selection for promotion to officer, he achieved First Class Honours BEng in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, before commissioning at Britania Royal Naval College in early 2020. His junior officer time was spent in HMS Montrose deployed in the Middle East. After completing Systems Engineering Management Course, he joined HMS Lancaster as the Deputy Marine Engineering Officer for a highly rewarding 2 years. After sailing the ship to the Gulf as the FWD Deployed T23 Frigate, he spent 3 rotations deployed - conducting counter narcotic boardings and maritime security operations in the Red Sea. After achieving Marine Charge Qualification, he moved to his current role as Fire Fighting and Damage Control Training Officer at Phoenix Training Element, HMS Excellent.
As the FF/DC Training Officer, he leads the team that is responsible for delivering Fire Fighting and Damage Control training to the Royal Navy primarily, but also tri-service and international Navies. Phoenix Training Element is home to one of the Royal Navy’s two Damage Repair Instructional Units, that delivers real life Damage Control Training, designed to prepare our sailors for any potential scenarios faced at sea.
