Chris Bamforth served for 28 years in the Royal Navy as a Weapons Engineer Officer (Submarines) with sub-specialisation in the Combat System (‘Tactical Weapon System’ in Naval branch parlance). His early career involved service at sea in Swiftsure and Trafalgar class submarines, employment in support at the Waterfront, a tour in Defence Intelligence as an Acoustic/Sonar Analyst, multiple assignments in training (including at sea), and in capability / acquisition as a Project and Programme Manager. Since 2016 he has acted as the Customer / Capability Sponsor for the UK submarine Combat System in the Navy Front Line Command and central MoD in the Defence Nuclear Organisation. Having retired from the Royal Navy in 2022 as a Captain Royal Navy, he is now the civilian 1* Head of Combat System Delivery Team (CSDT) in the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) based in MoD Abbeywood, Bristol.
