Platform Equipment Delivery Team Head, Submarine Delivery Agency

Caryl joined the Ministry of Defence as a student engineer at the age of 18 and was sponsored through university to study Naval Architecture at undergraduate and then post graduate level. Having finished university, she joined the MOD full time and undertook a range of roles supporting ships and submarines, before branching out to undertake policy and secretariat roles with the Royal Air Force and the Army, including an operational tour in Iraq.


Since returning from Iraq in 2007, Caryl has focused on the Acquisition and Support of Royal Navy Submarines, including 3 years in Barrow in a project management role supporting bringing HMS Astute out of Barrow and over 7 years in the In Service Submarines Team in the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) , first as the Deputy and then as the Chief Engineer. In Dec 2020 Caryl moved to work for the Technical Director in the SDA undertaking a variety of engineering tasks with the aim of increasing coherence in how engineering is delivered by the agency and providing engineering assurance. In 2022, Caryl became the Head of Platform Equipment Delivery Team, within the SDA, responsible for support approximately 38k equipments and components fitted on royal Navy Submarines.


Caryl is married with 2 children (9 & 12) and when not running around after the children, she enjoys gardening, dog walking, cycling, sailing and paddle boarding.
