Blair Thornton

Professor of Marine Autonomy, University of Southampton
Blair Thornton is Professor of Marine Autonomy at the University of Southampton, UK. He has 20 years of international experience developing uncrewed autonomous robotic submersibles, sensors, and intelligent algorithms for navigation and data processing. He has spent over 500 days at sea on more than 50 expeditions deploying robotic systems he has developed in support of marine science and statutory monitoring, including applications to conservation, deep-sea exploration, infrastructure inspection, and disaster response. His interest is in addressing bottlenecks in the flow of information between data collection to generation of human insight.
