A Russian submarine has been tracked by Royal Navy offshore patrol vessel HMS Tyne as she transited the English Channel.

As per a recent RN press statement, the Kilo-class submarine Krasnodar was surfaced as she sailed through U.K. waters. She was shadowed by the Royal Navy ship upon entry to the English Channel near the French coast, and tracked throughout her journey as she sailed eastwards.

HMS Tyne was then retasked to track another Russian vessel, Steregushchiy-class corvette Boikiy, which was sailing westward from the Baltic Sea.

HMS Tyne’s Operations Officer, Lieutenant Bailey Denyer said: “Activations like the one we’ve seen on this patrol to track Krasnodar are our bread and butter — defending UK sovereignty and that of our NATO allies is at the very heart of what the Royal Navy does.”

The offshore patrol vessel has only recently returned to sea following maintenance.

Two weeks previously Type 23 frigate HMS St Albans and OPV HMS Mersey separately shadowed other Russian vessels through the channel.
