British defence SME SubSea Craft has launched a second platform: its new uncrewed surface vessel, MARS.

As per a recent press statement, the firm claims the new drone’s journey from blueprint to in-water capability has taken just 100 days. It is designed to be able to handle both ISR and defensive and strike missions.

The firm noted: “Recent conflicts, including those in the Black Sea, have demonstrated that the rise of uncrewed technology demands a new approach to maritime warfare. Scalable, modular, and operationally adaptable, MARS is purpose-built for this evolving battlespace.”

The USV can be equipped with active and passive sensors, cameras, or loitering munitions. It has a low radar signature and is designed to be launched from larger surface platforms, operating in either autonomous or MUM-T (crewed/uncrewed teaming) mode.

SubSea Craft Chief Executive Officer Camilla Martin said the U.K-designed USV had been tested in both Australian and U.S. waters and commented: “There is a clear global need for the responsive development of advanced maritime platforms that can meet evolving force requirements and objectives.

“At SubSea Craft we are proud to be representing the U.K. on the international stage in creating scalable technologies. These can be built and serviced in-country to boost both domestic maritime capabilities and the agility of our allies.

“The development of MARS represents another milestone on our international journey… we have been able to showcase our ongoing dedication to AUKUS objectives of interoperability and technological synergy between nations.”

The firm also produces VICTA, conceived as a next-generation delivery platform capable of both high-speed surface transit and subsurface covert modes for transporting personnel and/or equipment.
